Students lift weights in Big Bench Competition
By Henry Nikogosyan
Junior Staff Writer
A-TECH held a bench press competition during the first week of February. This took place in the weight room during lunch on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. It was simply a benching competition and anyone at A-TECH was allowed to compete.
The Big Bench competition was divided into 6 different weight classes.
Mr. Stridde organized the competition and examined the attempts or lifts to tell who lifted how much. There was no prize for the competition, except for the prize of being in shape.
Each student was allowed a total of four lifts within a two-day period and each weight was allowed to be attempted a maximum of two times.
Senior student Alex Shipman from the 180-weight class says, “I take whey protein to get bigger and I’m eager to hit 245.”
Sophomore student Oscar Baptista from the 160 weight-class says, “It’s a good way for a person to prove himself”
The winners of the competition were as follows:
In the under 110 pounds weight class, Melani Hsing lifted 45 pounds.
In the 110-135 pound weight class, Deep Patel hit 115 pounds.
In the 136-150 pound weight class, Demetrius Doss hit 185 pounds.
In the 151-165 pound weight class, Robin Coneption hit 170 pounds.
In the 160-180 pound weight class, Jonathan Deboy hit 130 pounds.
In the 181-300 pound weight class, Sean Childers hit 300 pounds.

Score one Goings.
Ok, so this was pretty much a useless article. You are making everybody feel bad about themselves because they can’t bench that much. And you are making the losers of this competition feel even worse. I here by award this thread a “less than meh”.
I think it was a cool article! I mean I know I cant lift that much, but it’s cool that these kids can :)
Good job winners, and other people who competed.
Eh, it was average….
…
Okay, no, it was “less than meh” as Goings put it. I am looking forward to a story explaining all those fire drills today. I mean, weight lifting is cool and everything, but this isn’t really that interesting…
So hi everyone!
Sullivan you DO KNOW that by your first comment on this thread I have already reduced you down to my level, as a troll I can feel accomplished.
Also, I’m the one that gives articles “meh” or not. I know you’re a big grown up boy now so find your own trademark or go home.
“Sean Childers hit 300 pounds.”
Uh… hmm… let’s look at the curve here…

115….what? Although i signed up I never actually benched for the competition and Im pretty sure I can max out on at least 170 lbs. So that makes me wonder where the writer got the number 115 from.
And the kid in the picture is a weakling.
They should get their facts right before writing an article. Stupid article
I like the caption.
“Weights being lifted…”
You don’t say.
Who thinks that the Maverick Messenger’s articles are getting more boring with every issue? I certainly do. I remember when, last year and in the beginning of this year, they wrote about current events and technology and reviewed more than just lame movies. Why does it seem like every article is about something boring going on at our school that no one cares about?
This was poorly written. Some parts of it were badly worded and I really didn’t understand what was going on. Some lines it were stupid, like how the weight lifting competition was held in the weight room. REALLY?! lol.
HAH! Apparently SOMEONE at the Maverick Messenger doesn’t like me poking what I would call “gentle fun” at Sean Childers benching a formidible 300 pounds with a reference at steroids…
You know what would make this paper better? Why not look at what you had… before all this digital mess. You reviewed current events, but with a twist: you took an issue and had two people argue both sides of it in a side by side story.
What went wrong? You guys are supposed to be prolific writers, did you all suddenly lose your opinions?
Here’s a tip: If you are going to criticize someone’s writing skill or grammar, make sure you don’t make any mistakes in the process. “Some lines it were stupid”
Anyways, I think that some of the articles are still good. Some are obviously better than others, which was always the case. Now that the Maverick Messenger is online, more articles can be posted faster, so there will inevitably be some less interesting articles. They still do some interesting articles on technology, and keep you informed about events going on around school.
Whoa, I forgot about those! Those awesome articles where two people would argue both sides. That would be awesome online, where you can comment on it publicly.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
:)
You guys are… well i cant say that word on here… lets just say mean. I thought the article was finely written; Id like to see any of you write better.
And on the Steroid Rumor front, I have never and will never use them. The only people who are accusing me of it seem to be fat lazy people. I worked really hard to come to where I am. So stop spreading rumors when you arent so perfect yourselves.
And about the whole “making people feel bad” thing… if you dont like the fact that others are more fit than you, then get off your butt and do some push ups.
THANK YOU JASMINE
Oh dang, Sean’s trying to take Burger’s bandage-mouth thing.
Most of the people asking for a more finely written article probably wouldn’t be so picky about it if they couldn’t write a better one themselves. You’d never see it, since they’re not in Journalism
I find it funny that you guys feel the need to hide your identities. If you criticize people, the least you can do is man (or woman) up and tell us who you really are.
Who’s hiding, Sean!? I posted my name out, just like you. So next time check the facts. I’m proud of my career as a commenter.

HAH! SEAN CHILDERS CALLING ME OUT OSNAPZ
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Ima scurred!
Funny thing… you say you never used steroids… you say… you………….. Did Bonds or A-Rod admit to steroid use, I mean, when there was NOT an investigation on it, but rather of their own free will?
Btw, I could write better. I will not (readily) condemn the whole newspaper but… face it… some of these articles are overall poor quality… we have a story on graphics RECREATING menus…
BTW GOINGZ I HERD U QUIT LOL
“I find it funny that you guys feel the need to hide your identities. If you criticize people, the least you can do is man (or woman) up and tell us who you really are.”
And what, solve the mystery for all the people out there who wonder who I am? No.
I ask that you look at what I do… Ima troll lolz, ergo, I hide my face as such.
I obviously wasnt talking to you when i made that comment sullivan.
And Burgermeister… you must be scared or else you’d say who you are. You hide your face, so what? You’re ugly? Makes sense.
And whatever, I dont really care anymore what people think about the steroids stuff. I know I didnt, I know what Ive been able to accomplish through hard work. So if you want to be stupid by believing that I have used them, then go ahead, be an idiot.
I wouldnt be at all surprised if Burgermeister turned out to be a fat computer nerd who nevers so much as jogs to his mail box.
SooooooooooooooooooooMistuh Childers:
I just wanna uhh… point out… that… I made a sarcastic joke about you benching all that (impressive, to say the least) weight… and steroids.
I made a joke… yet you’ve managed to call me A) Fat B) Lazy C) Computer Nerd D) Ugly E) Idiot and F) By telling me to “man up” you are, in fact, calling me a coward.
SIX insults over a sarcastic joke on steroids… wait… hold on… I think I hit a nerve. *snicker* IZ U MAD SEAN?
Oh and one… last… thing…
“And whatever, I dont really care anymore what people think about the steroids stuff.”
SIX POSTS BY YOU on a thread in response to “what people think about steroids stuff.” =/= “dont really care” brah.
Because revealing our identities is boring.
Even though, Believer is my identity and half the people reading this won’t have any trouble figuring out who I am.
So I’m in the middle.
Burgermeister
if u dont want to be insulted, dont insult me by making a stupid joke about something that means alot to me. i worked hard for what i have, so obviously it would strike a nerve. And it would be kinda stupid to make me angry if i was on steroids, cuz one of the side affects is violent aggression.
And yeah, in case u didnt notice, my “dont care about the steroid rumors” thing was AFTER all my comments regarding steroids. And no, this message doesnt mean i care again, im just clarifying what ive previously stated because u dont seem to get it.
Ugh. Stupidity just keeps comming back to hit me in the face…

Specifically look at the last paragraph. Now let’s examine the “what people think about steroids stuff” comment. what steroid stuff? Are you saying you don’t care about what people think about the rumors, or what people think about you using steroids? Be more specific so people can’t use this to their advantage. :)
im saying i dont care that people think i am. which im not.
“if u dont want to be insulted, dont insult me”
If I DONT want to be insulted? ON A FORUM? Welcome to the internet bro, if I was afraid of petty insults I would never have started this business…
Once again your stated intention is different from you true feelings… IF you truely didn’t care, you wouldn’t have cared enough to make a post telling me how much you didn’t care about the JOKE (Hey look, I capitalized the word for emphasis!) I made about steriods, because… you know… you WOULDN’T HAVE CARED…
Yet here we are… a total of nine posts by you so far…
“And it would be kinda stupid to make me angry if i was on steroids, cuz one of the side affects is violent aggression.”
Oh… don’t worry… I’m a coward (so says you) who hides his face… and even if you DID find out who I was… what would you do? I’m clean in the eyes of the admin, my posts are still here… would “violent agression” be your answer?
I’m just asking “cuz one of the side effects” of violent agression is charges of Assault and Battery…
*ignores*
LOL! Burgermeister just found the jugular! Watch out Burger! He’s gonna go all “violent aggression” on you.
*This comment has been edited for content.
Once again Sean… Here we are… you and me… me and you… with basic logic!
You saying “*ignores*” only furthers my point that truely you do care, because if you (as you claim) didn’t care you wouldn’t have had to make a (record-setting) tenth post!
Go ahead. Keep spiraling downward in front of all of us. We all know inside you’re crying like a child.
btw sullivan what got edited out of your message? :3
It was a comment warning you about the possible death of a great co-commenter. Basically continuing the “violent agression” statement.
Burgermeister:
ur an immature child. shut up.
u must be the fearful child if u still refuse to reveal who u r
just leave me alone
Sean, nicknames are more fun than real names, it has nothing to do with fear.
And really, nobody’s making you stay in this thread. If it bothers you, leave.
Ah… Sean… I see you’ve been following the 5 steps!
1. Grief
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance
You’re at 3 atm… only 2 more to go! =D
Just remember brah, takes two to troll. One to post, and one to take the bait.
Holy LORD this was a good read. You know, Sean, if you “didn’t care” so much, why are you so passively defending yourself (yes, defending none the less) about the use of steroids? If a key side-effect is violent aggression, well, I’m sure we’re starting to see the start of it. It’s one step from internet trash talking to plotting to kill trolls. WONDERFUL job on feeding him, though. It all kept me entertained for a good while, to say the least!
