NV Energy Scholarship

The NV Energy Scholarship deadline is March 15.  Applications are available at www.nvenergy.com

Alpha Delta Kappa Education Scholarship

Seniors,  if you are planning to major in education, please see Mrs. Marshall in the counseling office for a Alpha Delta Kappa Education Scholarship.

Questbridge College Prep Scholarship

If you are a high school junior who has a strong academic record and an annual household income of less than $60,000.00/year, you are encouraged to apply for the Questbridge College Prep Scholarship.  You may apply online at www.questbridge.org.  Please see Mrs. Marshall in the counseling office for more information.

Student Advisory Committee to Board of School Trustees Applications

Applications for students to apply for the 2010/2011 Student Advisory Committee to the Board of School Trustees are now available in Student Services Office. Applications are due April 30, 2010 to the Board of School Trustees. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their opinions with CCSD officials and School Board Trustees as well as learn more about local government. The Committee meets monthly to discuss issues facing the Clark County School District.

Help the Earthquake Victims of Haiti

Efforts are ongoing to help earthquake victims of Haiti. Please lend a helping hand by purchasing a $5 Helping Hands 4 Haiti wristband from Ms. Stidhum in Room 800. All proceeds will be donated to Save the Children charitable organization.

FBLA Members

Now is the time to turn in paperwork to Ms. Stidhum if you want to attend the state conference. The next FBLA meeting is Thursday, March 11, at 1:30 in Room 800.

Latino Youth Leadership Conference

The Latino Youth Leadership Conference is accepting applications from students 16 years and older, who are current sophomores, juniors, or seniors. See Mrs. Forfia in the counseling office for application details.

Smithsonian Latino Center Applications

Smithsonian Latino Center is accepting applications for the 2010 Young Ambassadors Program. The Young Ambassadors Program is a national, interdisciplinary leadership development program for high school seniors. Please see Mrs. Forfia in the counseling office for application details

Soccer vs. Veterans Career and Technical Academy

A-TECH will host a Soccer Game against Veterans Career and Technical Academy. The game is scheduled for Thursday, March 18 from 2:30 – 3:30 pm. If you are interested in playing on the A-TECH team, applications and paperwork are available from Ms. Vallari in Room 324.

Basketball vs. Veterans Career and Technical Academy

Veterans Career and Technical Academy will host a Basketball Game against A-TECH. The game is scheduled for Thursday, March 25 from 2:30 – 3:30 pm. If you are interested in playing on the A-TECH team, applications and paperwork are available from Ms. Vallari in Room 324.

NHSPE Testing March 9-10

NHSPE testing is scheduled for March 9-10. Tuesday, March 9 is Universal Test Day, only 10th grade and non-proficient students attend on that day. Wednesday, March 10 all 10th grade and non-proficient students will test again. To lessen the impact on classroom instruction, the schedule has been modified as follows.

Monday  March 8  Periods 1-8
Test Day  March 9
Wednesday  March 10  Periods 1-8
Thursday  March 11  Periods 2,4,6,8
Friday  March 12  Periods 1,3,5,7

NHSPE Testing – Tuesday, March 9

Tuesday, March 9 , 2010 is a day designated for the Nevada High School Proficiency Exam (NHSPE).

Only SOPHOMORES and non-proficient students will test in Math and Reading on that day. Seniors, juniors, and freshmen have the day off.

The testing schedule is as follows:

Math 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
LUNCH 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Reading 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

All Sophomores will attend the full day to test.

Buses will run on their regular schedule.

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING A PICTURE ID.

AP Exam Sign-Up

AP Exam sign-up has begun. Students must come to the counseling office to pick up the appropriate form. The last day for payment is March 9. After that, a $50 late fee per exam will be charged. The price of each exam is $86.

Senior Scholarship Notification

If you are offered scholarships, please make sure to let Mrs. Marshall know! This information is used in the program for the senior awards night program. Please see Mrs. Marshall in the counseling office if you have any questions!

Miner Baseball

If you are a member of the Miner Baseball team, you will need to have your athletic packet turned in to the athletic office (room 301) no later than 2/25/10, Thursday.  You will also need to purchase your Spirit Pack by then as well.  You will pay the banker for the Spirit Pack and the $15.00 for the athletic packet. Try-outs for the Miner Baseball team will be held Saturday, 2/27/10, at 12:00 PM.  Your athletic packet must be completed and turned in to try-out.

Senior Scholarships

Attention Seniors: The following scholarship applications are now available:

Philippine Bisayan Society of Nevada. Requirements: Philippine-American High School Seniors (one parent must be of Philippine ancestry), on track for graduation with a GPA of a 3.0 or higher, resident of Nevada. Application deadline is March 12, 2010.

Las Vegas Southwest Rotary Club Academic Scholarship. Requirements: A minimum weighted or non-weighted GPA of a 3.5 or higher, demonstrate family or student financial need. Desired eligibility requirements: a minimum composite ACT score of 25 or SAT score of 1200 (students electing to attend CCSN are exempt from this requirement); demonstrate leadership in school and or community; legal US resident. Application deadline May 1, 2010.

Nellis Air Force Base Officers Spouses Club Scholarship. Requirements: Military dependent with a valid military ID card (military parent can be active duty or retired); GPA of a 3.0 or higher; leadership; extracurricular activities (school, church, civic, community, employment, etc.) Application deadline April 2, 2010.

Military Officers Association of America Scholarships

The Military Officers Association of America provides Scholarships and interest free loans to dependent children of active duty, National Guard, reserve and or retired enlisted and officer men and women. Information is available at MOAA.org. Please see Mrs. Marshall in the counseling office for more information.

Nevada Boys’ State

Junior Boys: Are you a leader in your school or community? Do you possess leadership qualities? Nevada Boys’ State is accepting delegate applications for its annual conference. See Mrs. Forfia in the counseling office for application details.

Burger King Scholarship

The Burger King Scholarship Application is now available online for seniors who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, have a part-time job, are actively involved in community service and demonstrate financial need. Fresh & Easy

Calling all A-TECH students and staff that shop at Fresh & Easy! Please bring all of your Fresh & Easy receipts to the Fresh & Easy box in Student Services. A-TECH receives $1.00 for every $20 spent at any Fresh & Easy location.
