Philippine Bisayan Society of Nevada. Requirements: Philippine-American High School Seniors (one parent must be of Philippine ancestry), on track for graduation with a GPA of a 3.0 or higher, resident of Nevada. Application deadline is March 12, 2010.

Las Vegas Southwest Rotary Club Academic Scholarship. Requirements: A minimum weighted or non-weighted GPA of a 3.5 or higher, demonstrate family or student financial need. Desired eligibility requirements: a minimum composite ACT score of 25 or SAT score of 1200 (students electing to attend CCSN are exempt from this requirement); demonstrate leadership in school and or community; legal US resident. Application deadline May 1, 2010.

Nellis Air Force Base Officers Spouses Club Scholarship. Requirements: Military dependent with a valid military ID card (military parent can be active duty or retired); GPA of a 3.0 or higher; leadership; extracurricular activities (school, church, civic, community, employment, etc.) Application deadline April 2, 2010.

On Friday, February 12 A-TECH’s DECA chapter held a fundraiser to help support the relief efforts in Haiti. On Monday, March 1 A-TECH’s DECA chapter presented Gary Allen from the American Red Cross with a check for three-hundred eighty dollars. Thanks to our DECA chapter and all those who supported Haiti in its time of need.

On Thursday, February 25, 2010, A-TECH’s Business and Finance seniors participated in the annual Lemonade Sales Challenge. Entrepreneurship seniors in Ms. Stidhum’s class sold lemonade in the Student Activities Center (SAC) during both lunches. Seniors were divided into two teams: RAHN-DE-VOO (girls) and THE JUICE (boys).
For the second year in a row, the winning team was located in the back of the SAC. Congratulations to RAHN-DE-VOO for having almost $1,000 in sales. Runner-up THE JUICE was also impressive with over $700 in sales.
This project supported a good cause since all proceeds raised from lemonade sales go to the March of Dimes charity. Thanks to this year’s teams for raising over $1,600 to help support premature babies.

Congratulations to Rong Fu, who represented A-TECH at the local Rotary Club Speech Competition! Rong wrote a 6 – 8 minute speech on the theme, “The Future of Rotary is Up to You.” A-TECH’s Speech teacher, Mrs. Bouchard, attended the competition with Rong and said, “Rong wrote a great speech and presented it with professionalism; I was very proud of her!” Rong represented A-TECH well and won a $50 cash prize! Great job, Rong! Good luck in your future speech endeavors!

A-TECH student, Kevin Wright, is one of four CCSD students to be recognized among America’s 102 most outstanding youth volunteers. He will be honored as a Distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for exemplary acts of volunteerism.

Congratulations to Mr. Mike Patterson winner of a 2009 Milken Educator Award. Mr. Patterson, one of only fifty-four teachers selected nationwide, was surprised at an assembly in his honor on Friday, February 26 at Advanced Technologies Academy. In attendance was Michael Milken of the Milken Family Foundation, Dr. Keith Rheault the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Nevada, and Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Walt Rulffes among other school district dignitaries and past Milken Educator Award winners. Along with this prestigious award Mr. Patterson will receive a check for $25,000 to be presented during a dinner and recognition ceremony held during the annual Milken Educator Forum later this spring. Congratulations Mr. Patterson!

Congratulations to Junior De’Armon Hall and Senior Cole Price who placed in the State Wrestling tournamant held March 19-20 at the Cox Pavillion. De’Armon took 2nd place in the 112 lb weight class and Cole took 4th place in the 135 lb weight class. Their team, Las Vegas High School, won 1st place in the overall team competition.

A-TECH has three students who have advanced to Finalist standing in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards to be offered in 2010. There were 16,000 Semifinalists named last September; there are now 15,000 Finalists, and the selection of approximately 8,200 National Merit Scholarship winners is now in progress.  Congratulations to Kameron VanWoerkon, Bo Yi, and Timothy Leonard who are being considered for this award.

A-TECH Physics teacher Mr. Mitchell Johnson is the recipient of the 2009 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement for teachers. Mr. Johnson is the one teacher selected from the state of Nevada, and one of only 50 teachers selected nationally to receive this award. To recognize Mr. Johnson’s achievement, A-TECH will be receiving a $1,000 grant to be used to support math and science education.” Congratulations Mr. Johnson!

The A-TECH Science Bowl team recently competed at UNLV in the Nevada Regional Championship and placed 7th out of 32 teams. For their effort the students will split the $300 scholarship award. Among the schools we beat were Reno, Coral Academy, and the Meadows. A-TECH lost to eventual Regional Champion Palo Verde even though we were leading for three-quarters of the match. Please congratulate juniors Anna Kiyantseva and Mike Tully as well as seniors William Lo, Ryley Hill, and Captain Siddharth Raich. If you want to compete for A-TECH and the prize money next year, watch for the flyers and announcements and join us for practice in March.

Congratulations A-TECH on being selected as a 2010 School of Distinction by the Magnet Schools of America. Magnet Schools of America has established the Magnet Schools of Merit Award to recognize the top magnet schools in the United States. The Magnet Schools of Merit Award recognizes magnet schools that show a commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, and the consistent delivery of quality services to all school stakeholders. Two categories of awards have been established by MSA: The top category given to a group of select magnet schools is the Magnet School of Excellence Award and the second category of awards is the Magnet School of Distinction Award. Schools recognized must be members of Magnet Schools of America and must submit an application that is scored by a panel of educators.

Congratulations to Mr. Patterson for being one of two teachers selected as the Nevada state-level finalist for the 2009 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Students with accounts may request or drop a course @ https://register.ccsdde.net/ using their current username and password. There are step- by-step directions on our website www.ccsdde.net if there are any questions.

Students who do not have an account should create one as soon as registration opens @ www.ccsdde.net. Students will need to select registration when they get to www.ccsdde.net., and complete the application. Students will choose their own password and will receive their username after they have verified their email. Once they have received their username they will access their account@ https://register.ccsdde.net.

Students should only apply one time. Multiple applications will slow the process down. Once a student has an account it stays with them until they graduate.
