| Senior year
— we see it in so many of our movies. Sometimes it is
filled with parties, prom and … other things, things
like in “American Pie.” Sometimes it has to do
more with stakes in the heart, like in “Buffy, the Vampire
Slayer.” When it comes down to it, mine was not like
either of these movies. Because I had the senior year that
thousands of seniors across the country have had, not the
ones had by twenty-somethings in some Hollywood production.
If my senior year were going to be a movie, the little catchphrase
on the movie poster featuring all my friends would be “It’s
Good Enough.”
That English essay that’s due on Monday? It’s
good enough. What about that Government project? That’s
good enough, too. “It’s good enough” should
be the official motto for most seniors across the country
just trying to make it through their final year of high school.
My senior year has been full of sleepless nights and barely-there
mornings.
Maybe my senior year has not exactly been the year that memories
are made of, but it has been good enough for me. I finally
received my license during my senior year and no longer had
to be at the mercy of my friends and family.
Through the dazed and confused mornings of school, I managed
to keep my grades up and have not turned into a total clueless
slob. A part of me has already left high school as I try to
spend as little of my time there as possible. I have skipped
all the assemblies and most sporting events. What does matter
is that I remain close with friends that I want to keep in
touch with after high school.
A few unexpected plot twists did crop up during my senior
year. I was laid off, then rehired, and then promoted at work.
Those dinky, yet irresistible high school romances did manage
to spring up on me, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of
it.
So some seniors may be sad and mopey that the year is coming
to an end, but I won’t be one of them. I may be a little
dejected that I won’t see my friends as often, but with
the Internet and e-mail, it shouldn’t be as hard to
keep in touch.
Cut, that’s a wrap, and so is high school.
